Join Federation Space
From Federation Space RPG - Official Wiki
Disclaimer - Though Federation Space is a Role-Playing Game, we consider the site to be a fan fiction site with RPG/game elements. If you're here to quickly get your own ship/become a Captain, it's literally going to take you years. We have many players and several full-time starships. That means there are many other people currently playing on the site, also waiting for a chance to command. We welcome everyone who wants to play, but your motivation should be a love of writing and the desire to create stories with other players from around the world. If you are here ONLY for points and command, you are probably going to be disappointed.
Joining Federation Space is easily accomplished by following these steps:
Contents |
Step 1
Decide where you would like to play. Within Federation Star Fleet, the Romulan Imperial Fleet or the Klingon Defence Force. Once you have selected that then decide, from the following list, what positions you would like to play.
Federation Star Fleet
Tactical
The positions of helm, weapons, navigation, and communications have been consolidated into automated stations operated by Tactical Officers. If you choose to play a Tactical Officer, your primary duty station is on the bridge. Tactical Officers are usually good candidates to become Second Officers due to their extensive knowledge of bridge systems. The following Star Trek characters have played within the Tactical career field: Tom Paris, Data, Worf, Wesley Crusher, Sulu and Chekov.
Engineering
Engineers, simply put, keep a ship or station running. If it ticks, beeps, or makes any sort of clanging noise, call an engineer to fix it! Engineers may also fill the Operations position on the bridge. B'Elanna Torres, Geordi LaForge, Miles O'Brien, Nog, and Montgomery Scott all worked within the engineering field.
Science
Science officers are in command of all scientific resources on board a vessel and make valuable assets to any away team mission. Whether you are interested in astronomy, physics, botany or any other field, science is the career field for you. Jadzia Dax and Spock, who is probably the best known science officer within Star Trek, both worked in this field.
Security
Security officers are responsible for insuring the safety of all crew members both on and off ship. They also handle criminal investigations and, on smaller vessels, may command the Star Fleet Marine detachment stationed on board. Tasha Yar, Worf, Odo and Tuvok were all security specialists.
Medical
The medical staff is responsible for the health and welfare of all personnel stationed aboard. The Chief Medical Officer also has the authority to relieve the commanding officer from command if deemed unfit for duty. Leonard McCoy, Beverly Crusher, Julian Bashir, and Voyager's EMH have all played within the medical career field.
Romulan Imperial Fleet
Command Division
The Command Division consists of the Commanding Officer, First Officer and Tactical officers. Command is the nerve center of a ship, with the CO and FO managing the vessel's activities while tactical officers pilot the ship and keep it battle ready. Command is directly involved in ship to ship combat and navigational issues.
Players who choose to play a tactical officer should have a variety of skills, including helm, navigation and weapons, though they may choose one as their specialty.
Operations Division
The Operations Division consists of Security and Engineering officers. Operations is responsible for the coordination and synchronization of daily activities aboard a ship. These activities consist of maintaining security and ensuring that the vessel is in perfect operating order. The individual duties of an Operations Officer can range from strictly security based to strictly engineering based, though most are trained in some aspects of both. Assault teams and emergency repair teams fall under Operations' purview. Fire suppression, search and rescue, and maintenance also are a part of Operations. Operations consists of the majority of a ship's crew.
Players who choose to be an Operations Officer can play either security or engineering or they may combine the talents of both into their character.
Sciences Division
In a true military like the Galae s'Shiar, Medical and Science only play a support role in a warship's daily operations. That isn't to diminish their importance. Medical is certainly needed to treat the sick and injured, and Science is necessary to examine any unusual phenomena and to explore advances in technology. They do not however play an active part in military engagements.
Science and Medical are combined into one division in the Imperial Fleet and work together to provide the support needed to keep a military vessel functioning smoothly. Players who choose to be a Sciences Officer may play either medical or science, or they may combine traits of both into their characters.
Klingon Defense Force
Unlike Star Fleet or even Romulan ships, there are no real departments on Klingon ships. Any Klingon officer may be called upon to serve in any aspect of a ship's operation. New crew members will be assigned to one of the officers listed below.
Operations Officer
The Operations Officer is in charge of keeping ship operations running. Operations is responsible for the coordination and synchronization of daily activities aboard a ship. These activities consist of ensuring that the vessel is in perfect operating order. The individual skills of the Operations Officer can range from strictly tactical based to strictly engineering based, though most are trained in some aspects of both. Assault teams, search and rescue, and ship's security fall under Operations' purview. The Operations Officer is responsible for the ship's crew, and is in most occasions the Executive Officer.
Engineering Officer
The Engineerig Officer is in charge of keeping the ship itself running. Emergency repair teams, fire suppression, and maintenance (including energy weapons) are also this officer's responsibilities. The Engineering Officer has advanced training in Operations.
Science Officer
The Science Officer is in charge of sensor analysis as well as examining any unusual phenomena or new technology. The Science Officer also has some training is Operations.
Medical Officer
The Medical Officer treats the sick and injured crew. Because of the general disregard Klingons have for their health and well-being, this officer must be aggressive when treating the crew. They cannot wait for the injured or sick to come to them, they must be ready to hunt down their patients like targs to a new kill. While the medical officer has no real authority on a Klingon vessel, they are respected enough by the crew that their orders are at least listened to, if not always followed. Generally, the Medical Officer has no other responsibilities, but still has rudimentary knowledge of ship operations.
Step 2
Below, you will see a link that will open an email to the Academy Superintendant. In the email, identify whether you wish to play in Star Fleet or as part of the Opposing Forces (Romulan or Klingon) and list the 3 positions you would most be interested in playing, in order of preference. Though we can't guarantee your first selection, every possible effort will be made to place you into your number one career choice. Once you're satisfied with your choices send the email, the Academy Superintendent will respond with further instructions.
